Yeh if I want to play rtype I enjoy it most on the pc engine,

Picked up a Vulcan venture still haven’t even got it in the cab yet ☺️

PC Engine is legend. Wanted one so badly when they came out, but could never afford one on grey import. Now I seem to have over compensated and spent a small fortune on games and consoles. 😆

The PC Engine was incredible for 1988.
But I remember it costing loads to import - more than even the Megadrive cost, when that eventually came out. Shame, I'd have loved one instead of my actual PC at the time.
I remember seeing PC Engine games in C&VG and asking my dad if Boots would sell them and if they'd work on our PC, to which he replied, "What the f*** is a PC Engine?" Had to make do with Knight Games, Escape from Eagle's Nest, and Eye of Horus instead 😂

I didn’t even know they excisted..
First for me was .. Smurf’s on Atari 2600 & pole position , tank. At a youth center .

Spectrum kickstart friends house ,
Vic 20 , demos neighbours house
Then , older brothers friend arrived at our house with a sega master system
Time soldiers , hang on , Rambo & light gun & rapid refire unit .

Somewhere between Atari at youth center my dad brought a binatone home at Christmas ..

I think I need to ask my bro what our first computer/console was I think it was master system followed by Atari st. Some where around mega drive I think I saw 👀 pc engine in a magazine! We already had a shop that imported some bits in our town .
So we could get mega drive Japanese games . But pc engine just was not on our radar, Then one day my older brother came home from school his
Friend at school in his class was Japanese kid , wei Long, My bro kept talking about his hand held computer that he had on his school bag !!!!! 😃😃🤩❤️☺️😋…
He was waxing lyrical how he had played street fighter & rtype in the class room !
( I often wonder what he & his dad had at home) . His dad got him a GT pc engine. Best dad award 🥇

Went to a yard sale on weekend,
I asked the lady of the house ,
Any old computer games ?she was in 70’. “Like Atari”
I said .

She just swung round and said
“ I bloody remeber them”
£50 bloody pounds each they was!”

“Had to buy them for my son!”

Similar here. You'd read C&VG and think - 'wow, there's some PC games', then you'd work out what a PC engine was and see that what little that was coming out for the actual PC in 1989 needed a three grand setup to look like the review.
