Acquired a non-working Daytona USA Upright today for a bit of fun.

Monitor image is garbage, purple sparks around the anode cap and not a lot else going on with the machine.

Seller said it was working fine until one day when he turned it on. I have no reason to doubt him.

I have not turned it on after getting it home - now where do I begin with this then? What do I need to check etc.

Thanks in advance 😍

Check the AC voltages coming out of the transformer first and then the DC voltages coming out of the PSU.

When measuring the DC voltages, measure them with the game board power connections disconnected at the filterboard on the short side of the cage. The fan in the cage is powered by the power input on the long side so the fan should still spin up giving the PSU some load. You can take the lid off the case so you can see the fan. If the fan isn't spinning, don't fire up the game board until it's replaced.

Can you post a pic of the CRT garbage pic? If you're lucky, it's just the IO board in the cage that has gone. You get a garbage pic with a disconnected / bad IO board.

It's dirty and damp inside

This cable was disconnected (from the I/O board at CN4?) when I opened it up, other end connected to game board, what does it do? Can't be sure it wasn't disconnected between viewing Saturday and collecting Monday.

If the IO board isn't connected to the game board inside the cage then all you'll get is a garbled image onscreen.
It seems odd that it's disconnected though as it should not be able to work its way free by itself.

I'd secure that AC connection block too if I were you next to the metal of the cage... 🔥

The LEDs turn off when the IO board has successfully interfaced with the main stack, which looks like it isn't happening. It's possible that the IO board is duff though, not the main board. It's very odd that the previous owner had a spare z80... Does that point to previous IO board issues, I wonder?
