Every generation gets its cultural touchstones. But the Nintendo Entertainment System solidified gaming culture, at least in America where the ZX Spectrum and other home computers never took off like they did in Europe. It was a shared language, a toy that let us explore our own imaginations.

for me it was what changed gaming, i had a CPC464 at the time, but going to Macro and seeing Mario and Punch Out just blew me away like nothing ever, at the very same trip i was bought an Amsoft pack of games that i played to death, but i'll never forget the crowd of kids grouped around that terminal just mesmerised, the controller, the controls, the graphics, the colour..the games..just simply game changing
