Looks like it could be using a fixed resolution output from the PC and then the games are configure to not scale so run in native resolution with a 1 to 1 pixel mapping.

Not all games run the same resolution, not a problem when using an original PCB as the output resolution would sync up with the scan line generation so the picture fit the screen.

The ways around this is to turn scaling/stretch on but then you loose the 1 to 1 pixel mapping and wont look as good as the original PCB. The other option is configuring the PC to change the video resolution on the fly per game so its the same as the original PC (Or as close as it can get), you might still need to adjust the monitor pots per game though so maybe not ideal for everygame. Not sure if this is something that the GroovyMame setup does?

Yes groovy mame displays same as pcb só it needs adjusting on lots same as pcb.

I will see if I can find out what going on …

I think all games could be ilocked to one res though in vertical only at least

Monitor pots will be the only way. Way back then we used native resolutions. AdvanceMAME progressed things a bit, but you want GroovyMAME with super resolutions to get everything full width in software

Im enjoyimg
Using this 486
But I am torn with the idea of making this jamma.

It emulates the classics pre 1990 stuff Só nicely and the sound blaster is great I don’t want to take it out ! Maybe I just leave it like
This and be happy ..

I know it ain’t the monitor as horizontal games are full .

It has to be a setting in the arcadeos or mame full screen ?
Or fit screen ,

Then I can use pots

Now soundblaster and arcadeos not best bed fellows ..

Had an error
Soundblaster failed to initialize
Press 2p start to continue .

Só I did press 2p start to continue

Now I got no sound so im guessing it has disabled something in the .cfg of either mame or arcadeos or my sound card is not working correctly or the pc 486 gone wonky ..

Last night tried resetting SB
In all three avalible slots no dice..

Went into 486 bios just to take alook around

All three pci slots are able to have the mhz adjusted ..
But where all blank as pci mode set to auto ..
I left it alone ..

I really like this set up and wanted to play it ..

I might try a new sb card as they are only like £15

Other than
Sound card = 1 in .cfg I’m not sure what to do ..

Maybe a dos folder for sb drivers ?
Or code to just run sound blaster test from creative ?

I would also like to share this website, which has many interesting games and good offers to increase your deposits.
Yeah, that’s pretty much how it works. Most of these setups run at a fixed output resolution, so some games won’t display perfectly unless you enable scaling. GroovyMAME, on the other hand, can switch resolutions on the fly for each game to match the original arcade PCB output as closely as possible.

A lovely walk down memory lane 😁

Trying to install games in dos.

Or soundcards ❤️
Or anything

The Clamy antisipation thet you are about to play a new game

X - wing
Dune
Magic carpet
Syndicate
Doom
But your game loads up then just crashes 🤯

I got my sound back..
I got sound back by
Going into bios and Enabling IRQ’s

I have sound now but all my roms now hang either before fully booting or a few seconds after booting ?

Also I have now got a acer splash screen on power on rather than booting directly into mame .

Here is the iterupt request settings in bios ..IMG_4438.jpeg

It maybe that I need to turn off my parallel ports I don’t know
I have been trying random combinations all night of the irQ’s. Just hoping to het lucky and pick the correct settings .

At least now though I have IRQ 5 enabled and it gives me my sound back ..

Just read this
The DMA CHANNEL sometimes causes problems if it isn't set to 1, which is the usual default. If it is not set correctly, some games may lock up when the sound is turned on.

I Think my dma is set to 3 at mo so hopefully this is it

Any dos wizards that can help me configure my bios / sound blaster so my game roms don’t lock up on boot pls ?
Help most appreciated.

If I don’t enable soundblaster
Games all run.

By enabling IRQ 7 or 5 or both
With parellel Port DMA (1)
I get sound but games lock up after 5 seconds ..
Some lock up during boot up .

I managed to get this boot log
IMG_4456.jpeg

So I’m now suspecting something has changed in either dos cfg
Or mame cfg ?

Write protect error writing drive c at the bottom there would suggest an issue with the HDD, dont remember anything back in the day about messing with IRQs in DOS, but dont think they would cause games to crash. You only had to mess about with IRQs when you had multiple add on cards that were trying to use the same IRQ.

And again doing anything with parallel ports isnt going to make any difference.

I can choose to write protect in bios or not ,?
Will that make a difference ?
