not a happy night tonight :)

was moving it to another room tonight when the back cover let go and snapped the neck.. massive inrush of air and totally gutted, the tube had zero burn as well.

its an 19" A48ABK05X philips tube on a k7000 chassis, seems these would be the equivalent of a 20" TV tube, just wondering if anyone can suggest a TV model to keep my eyes open for to do a tube swap?

cheers

Happend to me too the other day. I was lucky it was dead tube. Very loud inrush air flow.

I seem to remember someone keeping a list of TV models and the tube numbers. It might have been @Ace` (Sorry if it's not).
Good memory, I had a post on here with full instructions on doing a tube swap and a list of TVs I had found with the correct tube / yoke combo.

I think it's long gone now though, all that's left is this very short list. You'll want to keep your eye out for a 19" Goodmans branded TV, not easy to find like they once were.

Thanks for the info/condolences guys.

@Ace had a look at your post about tube swapping, swapping the yokes seems to be a bit of a nightmare. The space ive got in the chassis might be able to take a 20" A51/CR-31 tube, even if it doesn't i could always have a go at adapting it.

found this vid on youtube from arcade jason on swapping yokes and tubes, pretty useful:

i should really make a new post, as ive got a few questions about what might be compatible tube/yoke wise

cheers guys

thanks very much for that offer RM, if it works i'll have it off you :)

i dont know much about CRT tubes, but we all know a man who does.. i'll send him a PM and see if he knows anything about the M46***** line, as there is not much i can find on tubular about them.

I have the chassi With you can have for nothing .. as I haven’t tested it .
Chassis had power cables input cut and

That doesn’t mean it won’t work it’s just lazy techs that disassemble old cabs ..

This could have been on a demo cab
As it’s from wells Gardner / sega
When wells Gardner still was operationaL. I got it personally from them When they was closing .

Still has plastic wrap onscreen .

For hang on though I think you need a 15khz so you most likely better of
Getting a hanterex polo 2
And a Philips tube from a 19” tv.

Will get a closer look at chassis tomo for you with pics

I think I have a spare hanterex also

Yeah youre right RM, its 15khz, thanks very much for the offer of the polo chassis, but ive got a spare k7000 already with a brand new flyback from grant

sad my cab waiting to ritually disembowel itself when this CRT retro crazy was going full swing, like Ace said those old 19" goodmans couldnt even be given away!

Many of the CRT stuff got shipped to Africa, maybe someone should start bringing it all back if they still have loads, it was a few years back now, they probably moved onto Plasma and CFL backlit LCD now

had a chat with Grant, what a diamond geezer, basically im looking for a 1995 to 2000 ish picture tube to fit

cheers for the offer RM, but its a high res monitor.. sadly no chance it will fit my SHO, Grant said it'll fit a late age arcade cab, but no backward compatibility with 15Khz

the hunt goes on!

I necked an old tube moving it on Tuesday unfortunately. Will be removing the yoke. Does anyone know if the convergence rings are meant to be fixed in place. I think the plastic holder is/was broken as they do move freely.

That's a 22.5mm minineck crt if I remember correctly. Very common crt used with the K7000. Really shouldn't be that hard to find a replacement. I'd look for a 20" tv (make sure it's got a proper curved crt and not an FST as that will be a 21" probably). I always found most of the 'cheaper' makes had the correct crts in them, so stuff like Beko, Goodmans, etc. Should just be a drop in replacement with just having to adapt the yoke plug to the K7000 type. It'll probably have a more efficient neck heater so you can probably up the resistance of the heater resistor on the chassis and still get a good picture with the bonus of it not putting quite so much power through the heater (which should lengthen its life somewhat).

"Really shouldn't be that hard to find a replacement." this is absolute music to my ears TB.

off to pick up a scrap telly next week so fingers crossed on that one, took the isolation transformer out my other cab and i'll wire up some extension leads for the RGB+sync from the board; as swapping the montor in this cab is a bit of a nightmare it can (and will) just slide off the base.

ive got a spare scabby k7000 chassis, so i'm going to recap that and use that as a test board, i know next to nothing about CRT's but went over it a bit today and all the big resistors seem alright, HOT tested ok and no broken traces... tell me more about the heater resistor mod please :)
