Owned a few Naomi cabs mostly as guns but found them a bit odd looking but very well built & easy to work on.

Sega were thinking ahead for the engineer that has to repair them & the monitor on a frame makes servicing that easy too.

My Sega Naomi was the first cab that I bought back in about 2012. I think it was abut £250 without the Naomi hardware as I already had a Naomi setup. I can't believe that they are about a grand now, I paid less than that to get my for a DK cab plus shipping from the US 6 years ago. How times have changed.

The 31khz monitor (Nanao MS-2932-S) isn't a big deal for me as I don't really have any jamma boards to swap in and out, while with the net dimm on the Naomi, I can push games on to it over the network, which is really handy.

Over the years I've thought about trading it in for a more aesthetically pleasing candy cab or alternatively, chopping the legs to remove the "gap" between the control panel and the base, but was never really that overly bothered about doing either.

I've found a use for the "gap" now though. I've mounted a gaming PC to the wall behind the Naomi so that it sits underneath the back cover of cab and above the base. That way, I can still access the PC without having to move the cab out of the way when I'm upgrading it etc. All of the PC wires (which still need to be tided up) are routed up and above the ceiling and then down to the front of the the room where my mouse, keyboard, monitor etc are. Definitely frees up some space and the Naomi can still be pushed back against the back wall.

Yeah, I've been fully intending on putting a sub in there somewhere (although mine's a sitter) just to get that jambo crazy boom, y'know?

I've always thought that arcades could do well to have 'booths' or something * so that for select games they could output the sound to a dedicated system designed to give a little more ... ... oomph ... as it were.

Much as I will never forget hearing a pacman die, or a Dhalsim elephant toot, or a Virtua 'YEAAAAAAH', as I pass an arcade ... sometimes they can be a little anemic, when you are 'in it' ...

Equally ... I think I was reading someone else chatting about replacing cab speakers with car speakers, that have a much higher dynamic range and naturally deeper bass, so maybe that's also a thought process ... hmm.

* or at least the plastic'd off areas, like they did in the far east, for rhythm / dancing games immediately post covid
