Replacement garage doors - recommendations?

Reminds me, I need to sort another controller box for one of mine as the only remote I have for it is down to a PCB I have to hold a battery onto, in order to open the door .
Unfortunately I think it's a 24V motor, so a basic mains-driven box using relays won't work.

I think we need a new section to the forum for anything construction related. Next week my Garden Office (for the other half) / Man cave build is beginning. For now it's just having a jamma cab in there but it's my first and it's taken many, many, many years of blood, sweat and tears for that to happen. For all those who have had that kind of experience they deserve a place to share. A new forum section would be appropriate in my opinion. Sorry for going off topic on your garage door thread.

Its a good idea, There is a lot to think about when you go down the rabbit hole of a "games room".

,Electrics and electronics , flooring ,heating cooling, moisture control ,access , security, insurance and safety off the top of my head all needed attention at some point or another.

@Venom - thanks for the info again. I would be interested to see a photo of what you had installed. If you have the original invoice then that would make interesting reading.

Funnily enough the brother inlaw fits windows, and has done some of ours already. When I was looking at roller doors I was getting prices for supply only with the intention of fitting them between us. Ryterna say they only supply to trade which is why I approached a 3rd party for a rough quote for a start. I'm going to get the brother inlaw to see if he can get a direct trade quote for DIY fitting. It will be interesting to see what price difference there is...

@ZXSTfm - Good idea, and certainly no need to apologise! I'm certainly going to have a ton of questions and research to do regarding the rest of the project. Next up I'm going to get a sparky round to get some advice and quote me for some additional work.

Just fitted these on a structure I have just finished.
£450 a pair . Deliverd . I wouldn’t recommend them. But if you’re on a budget ..then they do work.
Well oiled ( 3 coats ) to prevent water ingress..
And then add some celotex inside.
Add some door stops and draft proofing.. come ready glazed ..
Knotty pine - single glazed - cheap and cheerful .. but they do work hanging them with T hinges is also so simple.

Using danish oil or even better is
OSMA exterior oil for outside timber is simple & fast apply with small wide thin nylon only brush….
Total cost including hinges locks & drop bolt £600

@FrancoB just thought might be worth enquiry, they were very willing to accommodate for the job with me and maybe they might do the journey. You never know but they might be too far I really don’t know tbh. (I have no affiliation. Here is inside so as I said frame goes all the way around to be bolted on place. The retained top left means you can leave door open and not flapping in wind. Will grab an outside today, as less rain !! As you look at picture you unlock the right and open up , the left do is firmly bolted into frame , its a very firm closure. Not had any leaks like my old up and over.

Aye, it's been an interesting process so far. Small warranties on all we've found. The higher end companies advertising have enough negative reviews to put you off too.

Grump ol' man thing to say, but like you've pointed out, no one builds anything properly anymore it's all cheap throw away rubbish. I'd pay double, triple even, knowing there would be parts available (at cost) for life, and you'd get your use out of it.

Wish I could keep the non-folding door, but gain the space for the residential garage doors🤷‍♂️

Nice door, however my experience with the fitter was shocking. For anyone in Bristol please avoid Bristol's Garage Door Specialists (now Bristol's Door Specialist's) Although they have good reviews on Facebook and Google, the owner Derek Larke is not to be trusted.

I waited 9 months for my door, after repeated tall tales about it being damaged in transit and then dodging a refund request. He finally fitted it in December 24 and did a piss poor rush job - didn't seal around the edges and the master door wasn't straight. I eventually got Ryterna to give me a new door under warranty - the fitter collected it in May 25 and I'm still chasing him to fit it.

I've got a case open with CAB, sent him a final notice to fit within 7 days or a take things to the next level (whatever that is). Honestly this bloke has been a major source of stress over the last 12 months. Ignores all calls, totally useless in every respect. Apologies for the rant!

It's quite a coincidence that this thread was bumped today... well, two years on I don't have any fitted as yet .... however, I have just recently been quoted from a local company and I've told them this morning to crack on. They just replaced my neighbours garage doors and they did a good job so hoping they'll do the same.

Going for some Garador anthracite side hinged doors @ ~£4k for the pair fitted. They are only single skin but one of the doors I am boarding up behind completely and the other door I'm building an internal set of well insulated doors behind so the extra £££ is better spent on insulating the internal doors etc rather than the external doors. I'll report back once fitted.

I had a garage roller door fitted in July this year, it was the best thing I did to get rid of my old electric Garador up ‘n’ over door. Before my door was removed, I gave the electric motor and complete runner rail to my neighbour as theirs had already packed up a while ago.

Cost for the new door was £1500 fitted by a local company. Wait time from ordering to fitting was 5 weeks. They took about 2 hours to remove old door and fit the new one. They did a fantastic job and I very pleased with the job. The old door is apparently broken down and recycled.

I was thinking of going for a grey/anthracite, but the local fitters said that dark colours will fade after a few years and will probably not look so great. Considering I have a south facing front drive, I opt for the standard white which also matches our windows.

My only pain in ass i had is i had the extra trim maybe 5 cm all the way round. Considering they measured it they messed up with the height not taking trim into account. So they had to trim the trim off at the top which peed me off tbh. Its fine as door top is not exposed to elements. My door gets full sun in morning and had not faded at all. In the heatwave the unlocking was a pain in ass think some components had swollen in the lock. I accidentaly hit the bottom of door with pressure washer and did a very small bit if damage. However the company sold me rytena paint and all sorted. Stokers id probably bight the bullet and pay another fitter for your own sanity. I would also suggest buying a small tin of the touch up paint. Apart from the heatwave lock issue abd my stupidity had no issues and woukd reccomend rtytena as a brand. Although they can take time to arrive as made to measure.

Roller doors can be pain in ass . Hinged doors well insulated and dont require motors being changed, but each to their own.

Yeah, I had a quote from up and over - I should have gone with them instead of favouring the smaller independent - who turned out to be a total idiot.

Ryterna have been great, they offered up a replacement door as I said - the problem I have is that the fitter has the door and has been uncontactable since May. He's still in business - hence me sending him a formal letter this week.
