[ukvac] Taito Space Invaders Cocktail Probs

Last year, I had problems getting this cocktail to work. I suspected
that the boards / PSU were an issue and since the boards needed
looking at anyway I sent the whole lot off for a recon.

The boards / PSU have been totally tested / fixed beyond doubt, so the
problem is elsewhere. I can only get the garbled screen pictured here:
http://www.killercabs.com/si.htm

The game wont play blind, can't get it to credit by using the coin
switch / credit button.

The only other thing I had done was to have someone convert it from US
to UK voltage at the transformer and put a UK plug on. I've included
pics in case theres a glaring error in what he did at that point.

Any suggestions / things to try would be welcome.

Thanks

TJ

Looks like how the screen looks when the POR (power on reset) circuit isn't
wired up correctly. The reason you can't play it blind is because it hasn't
got as far as running!!!)

There's info about it someplace on the 'net - a quick google and you should
find it I think.

Theres no obvious hacks - the wiring looks really clean.

I googled as Pobster suggested, and it seems I may need to tie pin 10 to
earth. So I need to run a jumper between 10 and earth - if so, is there a
'best' place to do this? Also, just so I understand this - what exactly is
happening currently to prevent the game from running?

Also, here:
http://www.pixeleye.de/spaceinvaders/manuals/taitoinvaderpinout.pdf theres a
little diagram on the right, that is a 'better' way to simulate the POR. Why
is this better than to tie pin 10 to earth?

Thanks!

Has the the wiring loom been hacked? Or perhaps hacked and put back?

If so, like Pob says, check that POR line...

Yeah you do have to tie pin 10 to earth, I soldered a small wire on the
board to the nearest earth point, usually the original power supply would
send the reset signal.

Hang on, i may be wrong since i've never messed with a real SI table, but i
thought the POR hacks (tieing to earth or making up the little circuit) were
for if you were trying to run the boardset in a jamma cab.

SO, do you have a wire going to pin on the connector in your cab?

I don't personally know what generates the POR signal, whether it's part of
the boardset or another small pcb in the cab or what.

I would have thought the manual should tell you though.

Martin.
