Got a vapor trail PCB from @Player that had sound issues.
Speech was fine but music was messed up. The board had two OKI 6295 chips.
One produces speech and the other does the music. These are surface mount and using my audio probe found the one producing the music.
Following it's connections it's the one that uses the F05 27C010 eprom on the rom daughterboard that sits above the main PCB.
After checking the rom contents were good I checked the pins and pin 8 (A4) was stuck low. This come from the OKI chip so I figured the chip was faulty.
Not great at surface mount but have replaced one of these chips before so I did the best I could.

After a few attempts (some pins not soldered properly) I managed to get the music working fine.

Nice one !

Not got to surface mounted chips yet myself, can see it being fun and games !!!. Did you use normal solder or solder paste?

Used a heat gun to remove then a soldering iron to fit the replacement by heating up each leg separately.
Since it's a small chip it doesn't take too long but it's hard to tell if every leg has attached properly.

Good job, I am in awe of people who have the soldering skills to do surface mount soldering and make it look good as well as functional. I guess as with most things its practice and getting a technique that works for you. Thanks for sharing your fix.
