Atari Star Wars Repro

Like a few others, I'm trying to put together a reproduction of a stand-up Atari Star Wars cab. I missed out on a reasonably priced cockpit version locally about 5 years ago, and prices have sky-rocketed since then

So I've slowly been bringing together relevant parts to get the experience as close to the original as possible. I've got a ZVG and one of Fred Konoposka's XY kits to handle the game and vector monitor, a repro flight yoke, and Chris on this forum is kindly putting the cab shell together based on the specs at https://www.classicarcadecabinets.com/star-wars-upright.html With some of Muddy's high quality artwork, it should look very nice.

But there are obviously a few bits that are harder to source or reproduce. Basically the plastic monitor surround (labelled Lower Housing), the Display Bezel, and the metal control panel to attach the yoke to. The coin door assy looks pretty standard?

I guess I'm just asking if anyone has ideas about how to reproduce the outstanding bits (or if they have any spares they would be willing to sell to me!). I've heard that Wimoutrun could reproduce the Lower Housing if he could borrow an original to work from!

I know that reproducing a cab isn't ideal, and not something I've done before, but I'd gladly swap one of my 26 original cabs to make space for the real thing!

The display bezel is just tinted brown perspex,so should not be to hard to repo?

Have you considered using an original boardset instead of ZVG/MAME?

I'm not sure there is any advantage of using MAME in this scenario because you can only play DW/ESB using the controller.

Multigame SW/ESB already exists for the SW boardset. Also, I'm not convinced SW plays well in MAME, the attract mode always seemed off to me.

my thought for the lower bezel is to borrow an original then making a 3D model.. from that it could be 3D printed or a 3D printed mould could be made to fibre glass etc.... well that was my idea!

I have an upright SW cab if you want to drive up the A34 and do some measurements or whatever, not sure how much I like the idea of my near irreplaceable bezel dancing over to the Netherlands though for Wim to mould from, hopefully he can find one lore local?

Alpha 1 might be worth a message if you need to see one up close as you are as good as neighbours.

Thanks very much pat. Chris has managed to get the shell done so we're ok for dimensions.

Yeah I wouldn't expect anyone to offer up their only monitor plastics for copying, but someone might have a damaged spare that they'd be willing to sell/lend?

Don't mind lending mine out to some one on here to scan or whatever you have to do ,I'm just not going to entrust it to Parcel farce or the likes to do the fosbury flop on.

I totally agree. I think this is the best way forward, if someone with an upright doesn't mind lending it to someone they know nearby to get an accurate CAD drawing done.

Def don't send it with a courier!

Thought I was on to something - my brother has access to a 3d scanner at UCL, but the monitor housing is too big to fit sadly.

However, it does look like there are lots of 3d scanning apps for phones. Qlone is one. Anyone tried these?

The Plastic Surround is the nightmare part for these cabs, not many for sale and expensive, was asking for one for months then one was put on for sale and missed it, trying to think who bought it, he had one already that wasn't as good condition so might be worth asking if they are selling it, will try and remember who

I ended up buying one from ebay, ended up costing about £250, I did consider making something but time involved I could do without, also without one to start with just no go really, repro's would be great for new made cabs though

Seen on KLOV there are a few US buyers looking for the bezel as well which isn't good news, If they are getting scarce over there its not looking good for us over here.

Also on my cab the brown display bezel is bronze tinted glass as I forgot I slid in up the side of a couple of cabs when I swapped the monitor out and forgot it was there and it fell over when I moved the cab, luckily its still in one piece!

Sounds like it may be worthwhile someone reproing these plastic surround thingies. I can imagine there may be quite a few people going down the full repro cab route in the near future.
