5450 should be fine, you can usually get 7450's for around £15 and sometimes less than a tenner on eBay, I think HP used them in a range of business PCs so they regularly appear in large numbers when they get parted out, go for the version with a single DVI and display port

I finally got round to setting up my new Groovymame PC using Chunksin's disk image and instructions, and it worked a treat! Thanks very much.

I am having a slight issue with AM slowing down whilst cycling through games with video snaps though, anyone have any ideas why this might be? It only seems to happen after I have gone into a game and come back out into the menu again. Before that, it works no problem.

I'm running Win7 with a core i5-3470 @3.2 GHz, 8GB RAM and a HD 7450. I'm thinking it must be something to do with the way attract mode handles video files or something. Everything else works fine, Mame is great, even modern bullet hell shooters and 3D fighting games like Soul Calibur work with no slowdown. I can switch to images only on the menu, but it would be nice to have the videos.

FYI, I copied over my old Mala setup from my old Groovymame PC, and managed to get a newer version that will play video snaps, so I'm all good now. Whatever it was, it was obviously a problem with Attract Mode, because I've had no problems since I switched over. Pity, because i did like some of the features of Attract Mode, but it wouldn't play nicely with my setup for some reason.

Does anybody have issues with Windows Embedded Read Only Image not letting you write a new Read Only setup?

Would the proper method for let say adding a new layout to Attract Mode go like this?

Select the Read Write Mode in "U" menu

Select the Restore Windows Interface option

Launch Attract Mode from the D drive to make changes like changing the layout to the new ones I put in the layouts folder

Rerun the Instant Sheller linking the shell executable to attract.exe in the D: drive

Select the Read Mode in the "U" menu

However when I do this once I rerun the Instant Sheller, it goes back to the previous image and I can't see the new layouts I put into Attract Mode folder on the D drive that I could when I selected the Windows Restore Interface option.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for any help!

Your method is sound, that's weird, the D drive isn't affected by the read only settings, just the C, maybe try running attract mode using the attract.vbs link instead of attract.exe if you aren't doing that. If you've copied the layouts on there, once back in read only mode can you plug in a keyboard, press tab and see if they are listed?

Thanks for the reply.

So when I use the Restore Windows Interface option, I noticed when I launch attract.exe, I see my layouts. However, when I launch attract.vbs, I don't see my layouts.

Nevertheless, I totally appreciate the work you put into this build.

Yep so launch with attract.vbs when making your changes, don't use the .exe file as the vbs file uses custom config file paths so you can have different horizontal and vertical settings

When you mentioned that there are custom config file paths for horizontal and vertical settings, I saw the option in the "U" menu to switch to horizontal even though I have a vertical monitor. I selected it and now I can see my layouts in Attract Mode and now it saves to ROM properly.

Thanks for helping me through it!

Is anyone using the Pi image and know how to bring up the config menu in mame and fba, with default settings? Is there a joystick+buttons shortcut, or do I need a keyboard plugged in? I'm trying to change dip switch settings on a particular game and another game for some reason doesn't have 1p Start mapped properly.

Thanks

Hopefully I'll find some time to have a good look at this.

Also ideally would like to get retroarch working as I'd love to play Naomi games on this if I can

Hi from a French in Canada,

I already have setup an arcade cabinet based on a windows 10 PC with Groovymame and attract mode running on an NTSC TV.

I discovered recently Chunksin win7+groovymame ISO and wanted to try it as it looks like a very neat solution, straight to the point, fast boot, hidden windows, that fits me. Thx for the hard work

The configuration process went fine until the reboot and switch to 15kHz monitor. The image is scrambled (but I am at 15kHz as the LCD monitor is out of sync). I suspect this is due to 50Hz vs 60Hz and possibly the resolution also (are we running at 640x480?). Is there a way to modify the modelines at some point in the configuration process?

Thx!

Yes, when you get to the step when you enable the EDID setting, at that point you can set up custom resolutions. There should be no issue with 50 vs 60Hz though, the menus will run at 480i at 60Hz refresh rate. You can use the service menu (the U key in Attract Mode) to set 240p in Attract Mode menus.

Good Morning All

Im looking at giving the GroovyMame image a go and i have a Lenovo M90 3244 PC 3.2GHZ With 8gb Ram but it only has onboard VGA, I want to try this in a Sega Astro City will the onboard graphics be ok or should i purchase a PCI/E Graphics card and if so maybe a HD 7450?

Thanks Simon
