I know it's been discussed a few times but any of you guys dabble in the console modding / repair world?
I've converted a zx-spectrum to composite (from RF), region-freed and replaced the edge connector on my NES, region-freed the controller ports on my SNES, fixed a broken Wii disc drive, soft-modded and replaced the hard drive on my Xbox, and replaced the broken cables on my Xbox controllers using cheap 3rd party controller donors.
I've started playing Zelda: Ocarina of Time and wasn't too impressed with composite on the N64 so foolishly bought a cheap s-video cable. It seems to have improved the signal a bit but it's overly bright. A bit of googling shows me I need to either mod my PAL N64 or the s-video cable to clean up the signal (totally up for either of those). Thought about RGB modding it so I opened up the casing to see which chip was powering the video and it's the RS5c282 - which means i'll need the 'N64 for all' RGB kit which is £48! Too much for me... i'll stick with the s-video cable mod (a resistor and a couple of capacitors)!
Anyone got any advice in this area?
