I know it's been discussed a few times but any of you guys dabble in the console modding / repair world?

I've converted a zx-spectrum to composite (from RF), region-freed and replaced the edge connector on my NES, region-freed the controller ports on my SNES, fixed a broken Wii disc drive, soft-modded and replaced the hard drive on my Xbox, and replaced the broken cables on my Xbox controllers using cheap 3rd party controller donors.

I've started playing Zelda: Ocarina of Time and wasn't too impressed with composite on the N64 so foolishly bought a cheap s-video cable. It seems to have improved the signal a bit but it's overly bright. A bit of googling shows me I need to either mod my PAL N64 or the s-video cable to clean up the signal (totally up for either of those). Thought about RGB modding it so I opened up the casing to see which chip was powering the video and it's the RS5c282 - which means i'll need the 'N64 for all' RGB kit which is £48! Too much for me... i'll stick with the s-video cable mod (a resistor and a couple of capacitors)!

Anyone got any advice in this area?

You can get RGB out of a non-French PAL N64 but it's harder and more expensive. The 'N64 for all' board is the answer. But saying that I read that the modded s-video cable is the easiest and most cost effective solution... so I'm buying one.

A ha! The infamous French PAL console... best PAL N64 going - only one that can take the easy and cheaper RGB mod! Can't believe you've not played it yet in all it's RGB glory. Very jealous. Wish I could have a RGB modded n64... just can't justify the price.

Can some generous fellow sell me 3x 75ohm resistors, 2x 220uF caps and a 68nF (0.068uF) cap?
I've ordered the pre-modded cable but I also want to give it a go myself.
I'll make a step-by-step if it works out.

Thanks jase. I know I can spend £10 - £15+ getting 10 to 20 of each component but I only need a few.
If someone has the few bits I need then we're talking about £5 right. Always worth asking the community before paying out inflated prices for 'hobby electronics'.

No need to buy multipacks.

Now I'm gonna take it home and mod that cable! Cheers.
