I think the Japanise Subaru's came with an octane plug
One for super and one for normal fuel I'm guessing that if running on normal octane fuel the the ignition timing would be retarded to suit and maybe slightly less boost
Wasent the pump octane level of a fuel based on how much
Compression you could give it before it auto ignited
It's been quite a few years since I've been at college now and Im not as heavily into cars as I was back then so I've forgot a lot of the info

So you lost 10bhp with an engine swap but saved £160 a year in tax if you took some of the weight out of the car you would probably be back up to the same feeling as the 1.6 gave you too great stuff

No, gained 10bhp
smiley20.gif
on the non vtec 1.6 HRV it was when i bought it, non vtec is 103bhp, first one i bought had Vtec which added 20 so there 123bhp, the engine out the civic thats in now is 114bhp and to improve fuel economy further i removed 4x4 stuff so lighter, faster, more bhp, better mpg, lower emmissions, only 1.5L

What i really wanted is the twin vtec that has 130bhp and controls lean burn for better mpg if driven slow, increases performance with 2nd vtec but have to buy engines from japan or Canada but i'm so temped to buy one to put in the mk2 crx, gonna cost about £1300 though which is reason this aint got one

Sorry, back on topic, last week they said on TV that petrol prices have now overtaken diesel, has it? I haven't see it yet

Something else, when mobile phones started to get more affordable, i remember hearing people getting shouted at over pa system because they had phone with them, there are still signs at fuel pumps saying no mobiles yet you see people filling up while on mobile and no one cares any more

They said using phone back then could start fire

It has here, diesel is 134.9 E10 is 136.9 and Super (likely just E5 now
smiley36.gif
) is 152.9 and always sold out. This is at my local Shell.

I've been seeing on the news fuel shortages now... brilliant. Panic buyers at it again. The media aren't helping with headlines like this...

Petrol crisis LIVE: Army on standby as drivers warned: 'Don't go lower than 1/4 tank!'

Maybe it takes while to filter down or maybe just certain areas then

I think some of guys here were right, dont watch TV, its so depressing, why put headlines Fuel Crisis

Was embarrassing driving to aldi other year and seeing someone walking back with jumbo pack of bogroll, TV last week, Fuel Crisis, Gas Price rise, electricity price rise, now could affect Halloween and bonfire night, what is going on and why make everyone panic, like there trying to get everyone prepared for something big happening

So i'm not gonna comment on this stuff any further, its to depressing and leave you with something funny

The last fuel crisis in 2001, girlfriend at the time was was queing for fuel, some local boy racer drove in the exit jumping the big queue, so she went over, he wound window down and she twatted him
smiley36.gif
i wasnt with her at the time but i was with when she had to go court for it, i kid ya not he went to police and said a girl punched me, thats embarrassing aint it and went court, unreal mind you every time i was with her a fight would start, not by her but remember she came with me to a job one night, she needed toilet so pooped in pub down bedford way, i said what took ya, oh 2 lads started fighting, they had to stop em so i could get to toilets

Not really, women can throw just as good a punch as men. Ask Holly Holmes or Ronda Rousey. I do agree though TV and all this in general is depressing as hell. I don't watch TV but you just can't escape it as go on your phone and its all over the browsers etc.

So I just went to fill my bike as it was legit low on fuel and i need to have a full tank due to my disabled mum and what did i see? ... CHAOS!

People arguing, cars queued all the way up the road not just the forecourt. Cars going in the wrong way and worst of all, some stupid woman who put her large car on the wrong side of the pumps pulled the nozzle all the way over so it JUST and just went into the hole... starts filling and as i pass her i noticed down the rear mud guard there is fuel pissing out on the floor. I said "Excuse me! Stop! You are dropping fuel!!" They had to stop all the pumps and push the car and clean it up and lay sand down there was so much of it.

One spark or match and i would of gone up.

People... Absolute idiots. Though all this panic buying... If the govt wanted all the last of E5 sold off at a premium scare mongering certainly works with people in this country.

Also notice in the picture above... That's the bike i have to use E5 super unleaded in... 11.74 for 7.73 litres... at 153.9p per litre!!!! What a JOKE! Jesus christ...

Passed the place again on my way home... all the fuel sold out. 1 pump left with people filling up jerry cans and their cars.

People are so easily scared.. first it was toilet roll now this. It's scare tactics from the media/gov probably.

It's the media's inability to resist what was just a minor news story, coupled with people's mistrust of one another - 'I need to go and get fuel as I can't trust everyone else not to panic buy'

Oh and the govt ignoring the first rule of advising against panic buying -> don't advise against panic buying.

I don't even know if my MK1 Golf will run on the new stuff, the last time I used the car I was using 4 star leaded petrol.

Everything comes and goes in cycles though. Fuel was more expensive about 10 years ago, I remember paying almost £1.50 per litre of diesel at some point.

Funny thing is that 10 years ago it was probably the best time to buy a house price wise. Now mortgage rates and interest rates are at an all time low giving people a false sense of security but energy prices are surging.

People who are in debt and on the verge of financial stability will not like inflation and the inevitable Bank Of England base rate rise. You just have to look at what happened in the 70's and 80's to see what's coming. It's interesting to me that Lloyds bank are hoping to become the largest UK landlord by buying 50k homes by 2030. They seem to be seeing something a lot of other people don't.

But yet there are still people buying sh*t they don't need just to impress someone who doesn't care. Whilst the media dishes out the fear in order to sell newspapers, keep bums in seats dishing out headlines that create divisions so people argue with each other.

In other news, I paid £1 for a vegan Kitkat the other day. It wasn't the best to be honest as it was way too sweet for my tastes. Although I paid the price I thought £1 for a Kitkat was a bit steep!

My car runs on diesel so I don’t have to worry about the E5/E10 thing. I also remember the days when diesel was normally cheaper than unleaded.

Anyway, this fuel panic buying is really strange. In the Sainsbury’s near my work the queue today for fuel was horrendous. A member of Sainsbury’s staff was marshalling the cars and getting them to form a queue around the edge of the Sainsbury’s perimeter and thus trying to keep as many cars off the main highway as possible. Yet, just 5 miles down the road in the next town, the Tesco garage had no cars queuing whatsoever and they are also 5p a litre cheaper than Sainsbury’s!… I just don’t get it.

What a coincidence that there's a large amount of old fuel sitting in storage that no one's buying due to it being expensive and the newer e10 stuff being pushed out and the sudden fake news reports that theres a shortage of fuel
so now all the supermarket forecourts are full of idiots buying all the fuel they can get at any cost
Even if they don't need it
It's the toilet roll thing all over again

Exactly what I'm thinking too... I bet the high octane fuel is just normal E5 they are trying to get rid of too. I wouldn't put it past them. I can't see any actual fuel shortages my forecourt here which is out in the sticks and our only fuel station has never not had fuel completely. Only when people were panic buying did I begin to see shortages on pumps but not completely out. Today might be a different story though if what i saw yesterday continued.

All in all, I think it's just scaremongering to clear all that old E5 stock. I even wonder if we've been even using E10 yet in some areas and it's just listed up as E10 when all along it was still E5 stock to clear, Although the bike i do run E10 on did and still does to some degree run like crap so perhaps it is really E10. Either that or it's still stock piled and they want rid so produce a false fuel shortage to clear it.

I could be wrong, likely am, but I wouldn't be surprised at all.

Well I'm seeing a noticeable jump in prices in Ireland too. Apparently some electricity providers (50% of which comes from petroleum) are on their third or fourth price hike this year.

Time to crack open the bmx!

I remeber when diesel was cheaper too, then soon as more got diesel cars it went up in price, surly when things get used more it would be cheaper to produce, if its same as many other things

Hope they get it sorted before weekennd else i wont be going far as van and car low and need filling

I noticed at garage previous weekend few pumps out of fuel, before they blurt out fuel crisis monday, tv and media idiots, all the morons that rush out to fill up with fuel they didnt need will be complaining when they dont get there supermarket and amazon deliveries this week
smiley36.gif
serve em right

Good news after my long run to Leeds and back, i got just over 48mpg final figure, passed the 500 mile i wanted to crack, ended at 522 mile on last 49 litres it should be when i can fill it up that is, as low light not yet on

Not bad in Small SUV with 2 of us, coin op machine loaded on first journey, mostly motorway but stuck in hull centre with road closues 9pm at night, some country road driving and more closed roads so not bad, over 100 miles more than with standard engine/gearbox and 10 mpg increase as max in that 38, honda say 37

Nice night at AC leeds too
