Yup a smoked monitor glass.
You've got a strip light in yours? Is that original? Mine has 2 screw thread bulbs, one on either side! Likewise below the control panel. This is the same as the US ones.
I did once consider putting a strip light in for a more consistent marquee lighting, maybe that's another reason why yours looks as well as it does?

yes i think you're right it spreads the light

well my cab has all sorts of hacks i don't know but i think the lower marquee was originally screw bulb as i spotted it but its been replaced by a modern strip

aldo there is a modern strip above the monitor area but its just hanging loose by the cable swinging about so i need to sort that

i will deoxidse the aluminium strip just above the CP tomorrow

then i read up today i will laquer all 3 pieces to avoid future work!

my CP seems to be plastic coated as i was going to lacquer it but i dont think i need to.. is yours coated?

also i replaced the bulbs in the joystick but still no light - any tips?!

It'll be nice to see how it looks when all the strip lights are working. I'll bet it will look better than original.
No, my CP isn't lacquered. It's suffering from a little wear (not too bad) but worse than that someone saw fit to scratch some name on it

I'll replace it one day if I find someone who does quality repros. i could do with the sideart too. Overall it has suffered too many scrapes and needs a sprucing up. It's a working game which gets a fair amount of play (still!) but needs some work to bring it up to par.

The rank lights stopped working years ago. Sussed out it wasn't a bulb fault, and probably a transistor but never persued it!

I haven't been able to get into my joystick yet as one of the screws was so rusty it disintegrated in the recess so I will have to spend time on it. I would firstly suggest you make sure the contacts for the bulbs are clean? I'll have a look in the manual tomorrow to see where it connects to - sure it's the card cage but dunno which pin(s)...

this cab has lots of scrapes but i will fill and touch them up

already done a reasonable job on the bottom half with filler and mixing acrylic to match the gray colour - not perfection but a decent job and a lot better than the damaged state, to try and repaint the whole bottom half would have been too much work, and then you loose the plastic laminate finish effect as well

Sorry not been able to get to my manuals yet :-/
Someone on here refaced the bottom half with grey melamine and it looked the biz! Was a few years ago.
Looking forward to seeing the progress.

Eyup mate - finally got to the manual and the joystick light does indeed wire back to the card cage.
It connects to the Control PC AO82-91379-A000 board to pins 4 & 5 on what looks to be a 5 pin connector.

If you can try to check the continuity of the cables first. I'll bet they're not connected though!
