We also put things like dishwasher and washing and dehumidifiers on in the night. Also we charge all our phones / laptops/ battery packs etc overnight so don’t use much electric in the day at all really.

so you are sitting at home in the dark all day...lol

i dont know what car you have also, but i am guessing it is a low range car if the battery is that small?

that isnt a slight BTW, i am also looking for a 2nd cheaper electric car after realising the benefits of EVs

Err, it's pretty light here during the day. How far North are you? 😁 and led lights in every socket so they don't cost much to run. I pay 6p per kWh (special deal as Octopus supplied the car) so with a 100kw battery it costs about £6 for a full charge (between 2-300 miles). I average about 1200 miles a month.

4 bedroom house, electric to cook, dehumidifier running quite often, dish washer, washing machine. I work from home the majority of the time (pc running and several screens)

My electric bill averages 150-170 a month which I think is pretty good these days. To be honest I never really give it much thought...

Open the curtains man, it’s way cheaper!

I’ve got a Polestar 2. The range is actually about 280 on a cruise and it’s a 70kWh battery, but my sums still work. We only charge it to 80% mostly as Polestar recommend for longer battery life. Also charging isn’t linear with batteries. The last 10% takes more power than the middle 10% to charge.

If your car preheats the battery before charging that saves £ too.

Your use and monthly averages are pretty much the same as mine.

When your rate is cheaper overnight it’s easy to adapt habits accordingly. It’s not about doing nothing in the day, just pacing your usage more smartly to when there is excess electricity on the grid and the cost is cheaper. It’s win win really.

I joined the Octopus Facebook group once, people literally spend hours a week planning on how to save a couple of quid on their electric bills. Fuck that, I'd rather just spend the time working to pay the bills 😁

i think it all evens itself out a bit with these energy tariffs, i could have gone for a really cheap one during the night, which would get me charging my for a few quid, but i WFH 3 days a week and the wife does the other 2 days to look after the hounds

so it would have all just balanced itself out when looking at it, we are still saving £40 per full charge over putting petrol into our other car though, regardless of when we charge it :)

its mad isnt it that people get like that

a bloke i work with refused to put more than £10 in petrol in his car because it would be inefficient and make the car heavier if he put more in it, and used to drive at an optimal speed on the motorway to preserve fuel

probably saving about £3 a month, he's on 50k

We had a guy work with us like that, he would only fill work van half full because he said he'll get better fuel econemy then drives like he's wearing a lead boot, driving 20 mile detour to fuel station so he could get nectar points and having to fill up at motorway services because he's running on vapours

One day I had a call from manager asking if we could get some fuel and take it this idiot because he ran out of fuel in his car on way to work, told em to piss off

I'd worked with some morons over the years but this guy was a whole new level, I don't know how he's made it this far in life, he used to screw up more jobs than he fixed and would turn up to job without the part order for the call, without his bootstock part because he's forgot to collect replacement, drive 80 miles back to pickup and then call given to me because he lies part was DOA
