I have just posted this over at Jamma+ forum in reply to criticism of me by Luke Wells for my reasoning for resurrecting UKVAC:

.. And there you have it in one quote Mr Wells you have hit the nail right on the head. This has got nothing to do with Jamma+ or UKVAC; it's all to do with having fun and a laugh.

Behind all the bravado and comments I have no problem with Jamma games, and I defenently have no problem with any of the Jamma+ members, in fact I very much admire and appreciate what they have done keeping this hobby alive. I hope anybody who has met me face to face will testify to that.

What you have to realise is that UKVAC came from a different time. Yes it was bitchy, rude, outspoken and mean. but it was also a hell of a group to be part of especially at meets. The "old stick in the muds" you refer to are nearly all out there. but believe me they are nearly all (including me) demoralised with no inspiration to do anything arcade related. and more worryingly some on the verge of giving up. Infact my main reason why I am kick-starting UKVAC is we have just lost one of the main old school members to real life, something I thought I would never see as I thought he was Mr Arcade FOR life.

It's the name more than anything. it's almost retro in itself. It truly does conjour up memories of happier times when this hobby was fun. I am doing this as my own project not in ANY WAY to challenge or fight Jamma+. just for my own sake. Hell. that is the game we are all in, preserving memories and moments. If people choose to join me so be it.. no pressure. I suppose it is like the football team you supported as a kid, you can either change to Man United and be successful or be like me a Palace fan and stick with that side, loose all the time, suffer the lower leagues but still be proud that they are your team. UKVAC is like that a lot of the time, but they are my friends and to be blunt I miss them all.

Jamma+ are your team to be proud of, and you should be proud because they are all top people. But they aint UKVAC. THERE JUST NOT NASTY ENOUGH

Here endeth the lesson

Bazfish 3:16

Final word Luke, look on the positive side. at least Oll will be gone. He will be too busy pissing of UKVAC to bother with Jamma+

I have to say I'd like to see ukvac restored to its former glory, but
as we all know, people grow up, get married and have babies, not
necessarily in that order.

Bruce, you were (and still are) in my eyes on of the great meet
"runners" the vac has ever seen, but that is of course not taking
anything away from the other people that have hosted meets.

You know what we're all like anyway, beer, a floor to sleep on, and
like minded conversation is what we're all after. the fact we can play
some old games is a bonus.

If you build it they will come

I have not criticised you or your reasoning for resurrecting UKVAC.

Obviously UKVAC cannot be considered "alive" again without myself
being publically slated for something I may or may not have done :)

I look forward to Friday to see if I've done anything this week to
annoy Dzine :)

Hi All,

Bazfish - great post - and quite moving too - I must admit to not knowing
who we have lost ....? :-(

Any how - I'm still here and eagerly read the handful of posts whenever they
appear.

Like many others - my life has changed a bit, and I [perceive I] don't get
any time to mess around with the old cabs - but I would like to make time!
Still have the games room and stuff - and most of it still works - well did
at Christmas:) pics on www dot spadie dot com - which is also out of date
by about 4 years:)
Would love to be able to re-kindle the interest to a point where it became
more important to me than much of the other mundane stuff that clutters my
days at the mo'

Here's to a re-birth of old times - lets see!!

Thank you for at least trying!!

this century :)

Great to see some replies!!!

I'm in the process of planning my Space Invaders table conversion,
anyone know of a screen that would fit in this:
http://www.flickr. <http://www.flickr.com/photos/puckman/1475832482/>
com/photos/puckman/1475832482/

I reckon a 7" screen would do the trick but only found widescreen 7"
screens.

As the wise Mr Monty Python once said...

"I'm not dead yet!"

:)

Dave -- still here (but on a different continent, living in a dingly little
apartment (but I still make room for an original Atari Star Wars, despite
the protestations of my other half :))

Well seeing I don't have the space for full size cabs I thought this
would go nice with my mini Galaxian. I bought it in Japan in a second
hand game store for 5 pounds ;)

The Watch is a 1971 original Seiko (also small so easier to collect).

Talking of which, anyone here collect 80's electronic watches?

Err, yup. Got 500+ LED's from 72 onwards, split with LCD, dynamic
scatterings, chronographs, F300 hz, jump hours, and Accutrons.

Just can't resist 70's stuff from my yoof.

Must be something psychologically linked to arcade collecting too .
