i was tempted to chop it, but it was getting time to head in so i never bothered. im going to venture into maplins after a couple more cups of coffee. bit ot but i tried buying a 6 pin jst plug from rs components and they dont sell them. so im still after the cable to fire up the gd-rom drive. i really hope that this cable is the last part i need. i got a hold of some cards to save the id info. so im ready to go on everything.

This was just 2 ends of a cable I found lying about, didnt want to cut a perfectly good CAT5 cable.

got the cable

now its the software thats gubbed. we will try again tomorrow evening. we got as far as the ping bit. initially the laptop was not communicating with the mobo. this was sorted with the cross over cable. now the software is being a twat. im offsky to play pinballs now, so for the moment. schuss.

Just been trying this out and there is no 'network settings' in the test menu. I understand the Naomi chip needs updating. Can anyone on here burn me one or point me in the direction to buy one.

It's so close I can smell VF4 and Crrrazy Taxi!

I can burn them if you have a spare chip, otherwise searching on ebay for Naomi Bios will give you some results.

Dont forget unless you manage to get hold of the patched CART images, your restricted to GDROM based games only.

so is it a dimm board upgrade or motherboard ??? i picked up a net dimm 2 . something, so no good for net booting. i just need another mobo and thats both cabs ready to rock.

It's just the large chip in the Naomi that needs upgrading to enable the mobo to accept net booting.

a wee update, the cab was resetting itself. it was switching between test mode and the game. i was unsure where the fault was so i started with the start and change view buttons. the blue wire on the change view had came out of the plug housing, after fixing the plug i fired it up, it worked for 15 minutes the jumped into test mode again. i then swapped out the i/o board, and its job done. the card reader is now turned on and is working. all systems are go

i will be inviting a member over to mine so that he can assist in setting up the laptop for net booting. if not this weekend then next week.
