I have seen a very heated debate on what this machine is actually worth. The eBay link is here:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Atari-Star-Wars-Cockpit-Video-Game-Home-Use-Only-New-/251044108497?pt=UK_Video_Games_Coin_Operated_MJ&hash=item3a736518d1

I see many many people saying it's only worth maybe £3.5k tops. Some saying it is worth less.

I only have this to say, compared to every Star Wars Cockpit that has come on the market in the last 24 months, this is simply absolutely no comparison what so ever.

I have seen this machine in person, before anyone can value you it you need to see it in person. The machine is true home use only, an Atari Engineer owned it. Drawful got it with only 257 plays on the coin counter.

When I saw it (and I have probably the second nicest Star Wars cockpit I have ever seen..) I was actually afraid to sit in it. It was THAT nice. I mean it is absolutely flawless like it has just come off the factory line. You actually get the fresh wood smell from the cabinet.

You simply cannot restore one to this standard - it's impossible as you would have to rip the thing apart to make it as mint as that one - it's not just a case of putting repro art on it. The thing is mint in every way.

You could eat you dinner off any part of it, it is just simply stunning.

As I said I was actually afraid to sit in it for marking it. It should be on display in a perspex case - it is just too nice.

As to the value? Well if ones that are well used with faults are selling for £1450-2000, this this one is worth NORTH of £5k. Would I pay £7.5k for this? Well no as I don't have that kind of money. But I honestly believe it's worth £5k+.

Will you have the best Star Wars Cockpit in the world if you bought this? Yes.

Will you feel absolutely terrified letting anyone near it? Yes, probably.

I have seen many Star Wars machines, both uprights and cockpits, some are generally worth £2500 as they are still in great used condition, absolutely beautiful examples maybe closer to £3k.

I have seen this one, and I genuinely can compare it to the others I have seen for sale on this and other forums as I have seen them in person also. And compared to the value of those, this is north of £5k ALL DAY LONG. Condition is everything, and this game is something that can blow the standard pricing out of the water. This doesn't mean the next Star Wars Cockpit is worth the same amount. This one is worth it because it is simply flawless.

That is all.

7.5k is an awful lot of dough for a cab.Tiz a beautiful cab though.

i only paid 25k for my house so theres noway i could justify that amount.

Like Ian said in the other post, valid points made on both sides.

If I won the Euro millions then I would buy it in a flash, just because I want one and could afford it! but not at 7.5k thats why it's open to offers!

I still think 7.5k is

It just comes down to economics. Some people have that money to spend some don't.

If sealed NES games can sell for $35,000 USD then i'm sorry but the price for this is a f**king bargain

If pinball machines can sell in the £7.5k range for highly restored examples like Attack from Mars, Medieval Madness, Monsterbash etc when a normal used one is somewhere between £2500-5000, then the price doesn't seem that crazy.

I have seen this machine, I agree with everyone about normal Star Wars Cockpit pricing. This one is in a league of it's own. It's not for the normal collector, so there's no point in talking about it or arguing about it's value as it will be bought be a very serious collector.

What's the value of something like a Capri? I know they are going up in value right? As they become more collectible. What happened if someone found one that came off the production line and had only done 200 miles and was then stored in a really nice climate controlled storage area. Is that worth the same as what other Capris are selling for? Take a minute to think about what that car could look like, the inside is as new as the day it was built.

This is what that Star Wars is like.

stevearcade said it the best, leave the seller and the buyer alone and let them get on with it and about their business. 99.99999999% of UK collectors will never own anything like this, it's simply not comparable to any other game any of us own.

Olly, was it you that wrote about this machine on J+, last time changed hands? Only, I do remember there been a thread about it. at the time. Wonder just how many went straight from the factory to be used at home. Not very many I would guess. Must have been a well payed employee who bought it. Unless the staff discount was good.

I'd be too scared to switch it on, I'd be keeping it in a temperature controlled vault away from human (or anything touch!). Sometimes I am glad I am not a fan of the game, they always cause a stir....in the force of arcade collectors.

I didn't want to comment on value as it seemed every man and his dog had an opinion and the most were too low for my liking. But this cab just isn't comparable and you can't start making sweeping generalisations about the market being artificially inflated by its price.

If this was a car, it would be James Bond's Aston Martin DB5 with all the gadgets. A one of a kind. Like Alpha1 says, it doesn't mean from this point onwards all Star Wars are going to be worth more money. Just like the sale of James Bond's Aston a few years back probably had little if any impact on the collectors market of Aston Martins. It's too unique.

I've dealt Adrian and he seems really nice. I'm sure he's not pricing this to rip people off. I think he truly believes it's worth it, perhaps a fraction less, but who doesn't put a slightly high price on something they sell expecting someone to low ball them. It affords you room to haggle so both parties can agree on a price they're happy with. I'm sure we've all done it. And I'm sure he has a reserve in mind and it's a bit lower that £7.5K. But you can't blame him for asking for it. I would if I was selling such a unique condition, iconic and sought after arcade machine.

I feel there's a lot of cynicism around this machine and I just don't see why. It's bloody marvellous. It should be celebrated for it's condition and understood that it's a one off. I mean look at the photos again (there were some kicking around somewhere a while back from before Adrian bought it which were much more detailed). It's simply amazing.

If your terrified of folk going near it and getting games on it, then what's the point?

Totally agree with this.7k + is an awful lot to pay for what could possibly be just an ornament to look at....can't see the point really,if i were to pay that kind of cash for anything i would want to use/play the thing not just look and admire it from a distance.

Still a beautiful cab though there's no denying that

Hmmm, it is a beauty. If I had the inclination and sufficient disposable income I'd buy it and play it, rather than leave it under a dust sheet. Reliability should be pretty damn high on something with so little hours/abuse on the clock. Anyhow, let the market decide.

Incidentally I assume the wintron was installed as a precation as I'd expect the 'red is dead' to still work if it had only seen home use. I bought my first star wars cockpit 'as new' (according to the operator) in, I guess 1994. The red is dead worked in that with regular home usage until about 2001-2. Maybe all the reds really have corroded internally by now though

I think its worth 7.5k. In some ways its priceless, just we're a bunch of poor cheapskates used to grubbing about for bargains.

Its a piece of cultural history and design and really belongs in a museum. Id rather look at it than look at the mona lisa.

Could definitely apply that to the CS and Pong also!

It's all about priorities and how much spare cash you have lying around. Like others have said, if I'd won the lottery or came into money and could afford to splash out - I'd buy it in a second.

As such, the only bidding I'll be doing is to the winner (if known on the forums) and how much of a lucky git they are.

When I saw it (and I have probably the second nicest Star Wars cockpit I have ever seen..)

That's because you haven't seen mine yet ;););)

It is definitly the best looking SW cockpit I've ever seen from the pics BUT the claim that it has never been fixed is not true because there is a Pen-Trans/Wintron HVT in there. Not a biggie, but it doesn't have a working "dead-red" .... ;)
