You can get the romlist script to stop running by editing /boot/run.sh .

To edit retroarch stuff the easiest way is to go into the retroarch menus by holding p1start and pressing 'f1' on a keyboard, if you don't have a p1 start you would need to edit the config to turn off the hotkey. All the used config files should be in /home/pi/.config/retroarch but they all seem to overrule each other in one way or another... retroarch is a bit of a pain to setup (maybe I'm doing it wrong...).

Thank you!

Recieved mine yesterday .
It runs like a dream ,a real proffessional piece of kit
It's been a long time from I've bothered with mame ,as to be honest I've never been happy with it.
And I can't be bothered messing about with it
With pcbs and stuff failing on me at quite a rate over the years
This is a breath if fresh air ,when I've been playing it ,I'm actually convinced there is a proper pcb in there
It coins up like a normal pcb ,sound comes out like a normal pcb ,plugs in like a normal pcb
The games I was playing last night ,most of these don't play well on multi boards and some are quite hard to get a hold of and expensive pcbs
Rygar ,starforce ,Pacland ,metrocross ,bubble bobble, nemesis, rtype amongst others
All played perfect ,
It was posted to me quickly ,took about 3 weeks in the post .
I will keep this one in one of my Jamma cabs and probably get another one for a Jamma driving cab I have to run the driving games .
What would be the best way of doing this ?
I've a generic Jamma driving cab ,can I connect this to an opti PAC and get it going
Or am I better to get some sort of PC steering wheel ?

Optipacs have been used before sucessfully in a multi Atari driver built in a Badlands cab, if the optipac will work with your wheel it should work. I believe 3 optipacs were used in the 3 player Badlands build.

Retropie 4.0.2 with joystick driver for RaspberryJAMMA:
it's in three parts and will need to be resized once you have it on the sd card so there's usable space. Other than adding the joystick driver and setting it to 480i it's vanilla Retropie and will require all the standard sort of Retropie stuff. I have no intention of supporting this image, I do not use it, if help is needed with it check out the Retropie site/forums (unless it directly has to do with the RaspberryJAMMA hardware). Enjoy.

Can someone fix Swisstoni's posts? They show no video but my download manager goes nuts to get them all (and no it's the default one for firefox before that gets blamed).

Same happens on my mobile, there was a discussion about this a while back on the forum issues thread. It's to do with how the video links are formed.

Is there any way of connecting a 3rd and 4th player stick and [2 pairs of] buttons to this? I know it's possible with 2huwman's multiboards as they uses a J-Pac and an I-Pac can be attached for the extra players but is there any way to configure this for 4 sticks and 8 buttons total?

There's no reason you can't use an I-Pac with this, you would need to set it all up in the emulators though. I know a few people are doing this but haven't heard anything further. My own testing has only gotten as far as confirming a mini-Pac and the JAMMA controls can work together, I haven't got the mini-pac connected to buttons and sticks yet so I couldn't really play or anything - just bare wire touching to test.

Actually if you only need 4 sticks and 8 total inputs (including start and coin) there should be enough GPIO to do it without add-ons. Although doing it this way you would need a very oddly wired cab or an adaptor or something anyway...

dee2eR, I've been reading this thread with interest.

I wondered if you'd considered eliminating the HDMI-VGA adapter and going the gert VGA route? There's an implementation which leaves the I2C bus pins free - gert565:

https://hackaday.io/project/9763-super-low-cost-vga-output-for-the-pi-zero

Then using the I2C bus you can add controls via MCP23017 chips:

https://github.com/recalbox/mk_arcade_joystick_rpi

You do lose 1 bit of colour depth on 2 colours, but will this really be noticeable on old arcade games?

This would eliminate the external HDMI adapter (thought I am assuming the gertVGA route supports the same low res modes) and tidy your board up a bit.

Cheers,

Chad

Yeah, I could do that but other than it looking a bit neater I don't see any advantage. It would only reduce the number of boards the hardware is compatible with. When I made the first one the gertVGA wasn't an option because of the smaller GPIO on the older Pis.

Arcadeforge is releasing a similar thing made in the way you're suggesting next year...

Dear dee2eR

Absolutely amazing, what you have done! Now I have a few questions ...if I bought one of those prebuilt arcade cabinets which has a jamma board already in it with 645 games can I connect your device to it? Or just replace it with yours?and also will both the joysticks and buttons work on the prebuilt arcade machinework? As you can tell I have no idea what I'm doing? I want an arcade machine with all the classic games not just Japanese ones.and to do that it seems I will need a jamma and a rasp pi.

Many thanks for in advance for your help

Dan

Hi Dan,
as long as the cabinet is wired to the JAMMA standard (or the 6 button on JAMMA not-so-standard) the RaspberryJAMMA will be plug and play. Changing out JAMMA boards is a bit like changing the cart in a NES, one unplugs from the connector and the new one plugs in, the only difference is you should also check the voltages in a JAMMA cab when you swap boards due to the different current requirements of different JAMMA boards.

If the cab is one of the modern LCD screen highres units I can even make the RaspberryJAMMA VGA out only (instead of video on JAMMA) for $10 less than the normal price.
Cheers,
D
