Brilliant!! That laugh 😂
The first time i saw Final Fight was in 1990. A local park (Southwark park, Bermondsey) had a travelling funfair and in the arcade section this game was getting crowded because it was new and the graphics were blowing people away!, i heard people saying 'this is better than Double Dragon!'. I had a couple of goes and said to my mate "Na, Double Dragon is better"..

Still see Double Dragon get slated with comments about how much better Final Fight is, people seem to forget that back then 3 years was a long time and things changed fast so it should be better really but Double Dragon defined the multi directional side scrolling Beat Em Up
Renegade before it which I love also gave you multi directional but within an area, but you have 1986 Jail Break which is also is mutli directional side scroller but Run and Gun style, is there any earlier examples of that or was it a first? but look at the difference between Jail Break and Double Dragon GFX wise
Double Dragon was amazing on release, yet when I hadn't seen it for a good few years and been used to playing later games like Virtua fighter, Mortal Kombat... popped in Skeggy Arcade and some disappointment set in as I had a go on it after probably 5/6 years, you have to look at when it was released, what came before it and how good was it at the time of release and nothing touched it just like Operation Wolf :D Still be one of my Go to Games for fun along with Renegade, If I had space I'd built replica cab to sit next to Double Dragon with the Marquee, Monitor Bezel and get a CPO done for Renegade

Final Fight is good but it felt a bit lite and tappy when i was playing it, super fast punches and large stiff characters also felt a bit limited!
While Double Dragon felt organic, deep and unpredictable with more moves and things to happen. It let you breathe and feel the atmosphere while listening to that awards winning soundtrack.
I still love the graphics they match the gameplay and world perfectly.
Same with Shinobi.

Operation Wolf, yes i still remember the day it was new in a Sheerness arcade. What a cool experience! I used to watch the attract mode a lot because it was 50p a go! Used to treat myself sometimes.

Jailbreak I've got a soft spot for. Was in a chippy in Deptford High Street. I always had a go when passing it when i was 13. Those noises and simply rapid gameplay. Nice.

50p a go for Op Wolf, wow that wasn't cheap

For one of Leicesters smaller places Cascade Amusements had many greats with Roadrunner, Rampage which has no intro, Joust, Popeye, Rolling Thunder, Jailbreak, Green Beret, 1942, Double Dragon, POW but I'm sure there were other cabs in between Double Dragon and POW. wish I had the space to have all those in cabs lined up to see and hear the sounds of them again, the speech of Jail Break, the Laughing of Rolling Thunder, The whistle of Popeye's pipe, Beep Beep from Road Runner, Music of Double Dragon, explosion of POW was epic, after all the videos at the front they had loads of fruit machines, only one I don't have in either original machine or board is Joust but that's what mame is for, there is probably another 2 or 3 cabs I can't remember

So many classic games and memories.
I once saw an original Popeye cab sitting at the back of an arcade in 1990 with a for sale sticker on it! £30. Didn't get used much and was still working! Ouch!!

SFII's elephants will forever be the "smell of bread" of an arcade for me, alongside, on equal footing with; Toobin, Virtua Racing, Pac-Man, and other 'noisy bastards' ...

Effectively, these sung above everything else, somehow ... perhaps it's Cocktail Party Effect ... but I doubt it. If I could think of a couple that entrance me without sound ... then ... hrm ... well ... Gauntlet (because IRRC there's rarely sound on the attract) and the SEGA vertical shooter that I have boards for somewhere that I'm supposed to be getting to someone ... ARG FML. Astro wotsit.

I always loved Hang On, Dragons Lair, Robocop and Street Fighter 2's attract modes. Sounds of youth.

...

EDIT ... COWABUNGA ... can't believe I forgot Turtles ... Multi ... that could be heard between the SF elephants.

I think it was Coral Island mid 80's as you walked through the doors there was a Hang On DLX and a Space Harrier DLX with the sound cranked up on both every so often you would hear the Hang On music followed by 'Welcome to the fantasy zone' over the ambient sound of the rest of the arcade.

The Robocop one had me thinking over the weekend was that another I'd forgot about and looking at them released in late 1988 same as POW which was 100% in Cascade Amusements, can remember watching the Robocop Attract mode as it's a cracker with the music and cool speech, the gun coming out his leg, I pretty sure its another one in the cool line up of cabs Cascade had, not sure why I can't picture it as clear as the rest but pretty certain that was in there, classic movie and game tie in Robocop was but I wasn't that great at it so probably had one of two goes over the time, have to get me thinking cap on if there are any others I may have forgot as I think Robocop was to right of Double Dragon and POW last cab on left and they had another game inbetween them
