I'm rather pleased to say that I just finally cracked the nut that is Verilog (in a limited way at least) and succeeded in implementing a Vectrex cart with an FPGA. And it WORKS!!!

OK, not very exciting yet, but it will be when I implement the development interface to make it more dynamic and useful.

I went for VHDL rather than verilog, just seemed to be 'out there' more

but I reckon once you understand the concept of a program where every line of code runs at the same time you should be able to write in either!

I found the most fun was timing - in 'normal' programs, when you say A=peek(address) it just happens, in FPGA's you have to cater for the number of cycles it takes to read memory!

Got a few projects on the go but nothing near completion.

Carry on commenting Rainbow Islands disassembly
Convert a few more CPS1 games to use different C boards (to aid repairers)
Working on a small personal project for the Oculus Rift
Carry on dumping PALsporchy2013-11-01 08:26:57

I tried several times to get my head round VHDL and it just seemed like mumbo jumbo. I tried initially because that's what FPGA Arcade was using. Verilog is so much cleaner to read and understand!

But you're right, I'm hoping that even though I now use Verilog I might be able to look at VHDL, work out what's going on and convert it.

Â?

Adding System24 to my test rig, so I can finally provide people out there with replacement floppy disks as I am tired of seeing people asking and getting nowhere - get the NOS masters is a bit more tricky. ;)

Well on the plus side I got the masters of

Hot rod 4p
Hot rod 3p turbo
Scramble spirits
Crackdown
Gain ground
Super masters golf
Bonanza Bros
Dynamic golf cc
Dynamic golf cc - regular 68k CPU version (prototype?)

Bad news is my system24 isn't so well, so now I need some BIOS chips and then we can rock.

Japan team have almost finished a universal fd1049 module! This bad boy can be programmed up with the fd1049 tables, depending on the game! The system24 has been the ultimate tool for dumping fd1094 tables - thanks to the boot CPU bring a regular 68k.

This is excellent news. I could loan you my Hot rod board if you wanted, I dont know if its a worker tho.

We three need to get together and get our system 24 stuff working

Ok, you may have noticed, I've been spamming the scene up with various things to do with my group's video game music
smiley9.gif
. Well, now for something original. As well as the Magical Sound Shower, we're working on an album called Love By Proxy. Here's a little teaser trailer with an edited down version of a track called "You've Gotten Beneath My Skin".

Expect more in the new year. As always, if you like it, please check out our Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/opusscience).

So, starting out with a Silverline 20 cab (my daughter is of the iPad generation, as you can tell)...

Story_1.JPG

I'm working on this...

Mmm... Therapeutic...

Story_5.JPG

As you can see, it's still in the early stages, but I've got a bezel arriving today...

Story_6.JPG

I've also got white t-moulding on the way, technical
drawings to have a brand new CP fabricated (and a holesaw ready to cut out the
button holes), the dimensions to make a CP overlay, new sticks and goldleaf buttons ready to go in it.

Oh, and I made the mistake of putting the board in it first. With that in mind, I'm surprised I've even got this far
smiley36.gif

And as you can probably also tell, most of the design and concepts have been lovingly ripped off from Olly's cute-as-a-button little dedicated cab. But if you're going to copy, do it from the best

Just finished a little c.v.s century woody conversion, looks kinda cool now

lcd fittted, new joysticks & buttons fitted, new power supply, new jamma loom, new socket filter, new locks

babystar board fitted,

control panel resprayed

there was no back door so I had to make one, re-sprayed it black and it looks ok,

extra fan fitted to back door, this blows air in and the fan on the power supply blows it back out, a constant flow of cool air through the machine

total time spent, 15 hours over 2 days

has anyone bought any flat pack kits from this guy below

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/arcadeemu/m.html?item=221305195532&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562

I bought this flat pack kit below, I'm quite capable of getting the materials and cutting it all myself but I'm just lazy and I like the artwork so I just clicked bit and it was on its way to me,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221305195532?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_1470wt_1141

I'm building it up tonight as its a xmas present for my 4 yr old, he's going to love it when he opens it

its not a bad kit but the joining blocks are too small and also the kit is only 3/8 thick so I've had to coach bolt it, just going to fit the LCD in and then fit buttons, joysticks and loom

I reckon its going to be a long night....I'll better get a wiggle on

Getting an arcade machine for Christmas was a dream when I was a kid. I did get some very cool presents, but my own arcade machine would have been gobsmackingly awesome. I'm enjoying your updates mate.
