Scotland could not possibly be any worse off than it is at the moment.

I'd have to agree with that statement.

I'm English, but of Scottish heritage.

I've never had anything but a warm welcome when I've been to Scotland, though in all fairness, I've only ever been to three places: Glasgow, Glasgow and Glasgow!

Oh, I did go to Forres once for a wedding and took a 12 hour detour on the way home to see Ben Nevis and Loch Ness - even Nessie was friendly.

Seriously, I think people in the North of England feel as detached from Westminster as the Scots, though I'm not sure that's something people North of the border could possibly quite believe, as I wonder how many think it is a Scottish/English thing. It isn't.

GO FOR IT, I SAY!

PS Don't forget us Englanders though when you're having meetups - we'll make sure our passports are always up-to-date!

So did we win Wimbledon last year or not?

Dan P was on the money IMHO, nationalism is dangerous in all its guises and usually is the enemy of rationalism.

I think a split will be worse for all of us. As the saying goes 'be careful what you wish for'.

BBC News said:
Westminster are waiting to hear if 'Barr' and 'Tunnock's' will be moving to the UK, the decision will be announced after the vote has been decided. In response to the shocking news, share prices for both companies have risen dramatically while worried shop owners in Scotland scramble to stockpile Irn-Bru, Tizer, Teacakes and caramel wafers before Import duty could potentially raise the price of a 2l bottle of Irn-Bru to treble it's current value. Shareholders of Barr have been warned that the repercussions could be much worse than Black Monday. The possible event has already been dubbed 'Orange Thursday' , luckily the referendum wont be taking place on Wednesday as Orange/EE/TMobile already own that day.

Obama has pledged that FEMA will be utilized to provide support for distraught survivors and to help distribute emergency supplies. We have also just heard that an emergency blockade will be erected on the foundations of Hadrian's wall due to smugglers planning mass smuggling operations by hiding contraband in arcade cabinets. One example has already been found where a Sega 'Model 3' arcade game 'Virtua Fighter 3' had Tunnock's Teacakes as joystick tops, Snowballs as buttons and caramel wafers disguised as Rom chips inside the 'game cage'.

Totally left field but as I was buying my lottery tickets it hit me. Scotland won't be part of Lotto

Camelots agreement is with the UK government. I'm guessing Scotland would have to arrange their own deal.

Anyhoo, final word, ashamed? Aye, for sure, i didn't expect much else to be honest.
My gut feelings just don't like Scotland anymore and I never thought I'd say that.
I have Irish heritage so that's me from now on

I know exactly what they are doing, messing it all up in their own special tory and labour ways.

Countries are just our own silly constructs.

You're best off judging everyone and everything on merit. There's no need to favour somewhere just because you were born there or support their team.

I love Scotland....Once, I was even told by a Scot that for an Englishman I was alright.
smiley36.gif

I know it's not what some people want to hear, but, I'm glad Scotland is still part of the United Kingdom.
If there was a vote, I'd definitely want to keep Scotland as part of the UK.

The scaremongering in the media wasn't nice to see, but that's Politics for you......In real terms I honestly don't know the in's and out's of the benefits or downsides of Scotland being totally independent are, just what polytrickians have said.

independence was never offered by the snp, scotland has chosen dependence

put the same vote to yorkshire, northeast or southwest you would of seen a landslide yes vote

its time the overpayment was stopped to scotland

Ashamed doesn't come close. An opportunity to make positive change lost. Lot of people now feeling totally empty. The nos won, but not through sound argument or even strong feelings of identity, just threats, worst case scenarios and media manipulation. 6 people in a hundred, that's all they had to scare, and I know more than that round here who've told me that's exactly why they voted no.

Oh well, the battle is lost. The future for Scotland looks grim. Scant consolation, but at least Adolf Brown has already been shafted by Cameron. Scotland will get 'powers' (xray vision / levitation etc?), but Scotland's labour MPs will lose voting rights at Westminster. Bet he doesn't feel so smug now!

There will be more elections, probably not about independence, but we can hold the two faced red Tories to task for their revolting self serving hypocrisy.

Sad times indeed.
