Had a couple of days off from work, unfortunately I've had the flu so haven't ventured out.....luckily that gave me some free time to do a bit of tinkering.

Yesterday I moved the F355 cab into the house, and today I applied some artwork I acquired at a mini raid a while back. The artwork was in slightly rough shape but I'm happy with the outcome considering how many creases and rips it had.

I used Muddy's washing up liquid method to make life a bit easier. I had to use a stanley knife to scrape bits off the sticky side that were causing air bubbles, then I used a hairdryer to reactivate the stickiness. The RH side was in the worst condition, a little bit of the top section of the art had been torn off and the top edge was a bit cracked and had no stickiness where the backing had been removed.

The cab looks a lot better now though but still not as nice as Gary's F355/2 twin though.

Yeah, the RH side of the twin is still in the garage with the topper mate. I've not got the space to work on it yet due to other projects I have to do first. I also need to find a decent Nanao 2932 monitor tube as I necked the one I had.

looks great, where did you get the new plastic caps for the side panels from ?

From Sega mate.
Gary did a big order and we both got some bits, the colour is a lot lighter than the pics suggest though. Still better than not having them.

Nice job with that art mate, wasn't sure how well that would hold up being fitted to a cab but looks great

Thanks mate.

It's not 'Gary' mint but I'm really happy with the results.

If it wasn't for your advice in your 'art application' thread I would have messed it up big time, so a big thanks again mate.

I have to say that the little blue 3m squeegy thing was a life saver, I tried to use a normal window squeegy before the lil' blue one and I proceeded to pull the vinyl right off the sticky paper due to my pulling and pushing.

Yeah I think you seen the condition of the RH side in person when I briefly placed it on the floor when snatched it from the box! I was kinda like a dog with a bone when I seen those F355 arts.

Everyone in this collective addiction hobby has their favourite games, and F355 is one of mine.

My final update in this thread for the year...

Today I fitted some new rubber matting on my Power Drift cab and polished the pedals and metal plate at the front.

I'm quite happy with the results.

I used spray glue to fix the matting and I've ended up with a few spots that didn't get glued well enough so have a few air bubbles here and there, but its not bad enough to start over. When I restored my Fire Truck I used contact adhesive to stick the matting and that was perfect, I would advise going down that route if you're thinking of doing the same to your cabs.

Happy new year all.

Mine came from screwfix a few years back. You have to buy it in a lengthy roll but it's an exact match for the old Atari and Sega stuff.

New year, new jobs to do... I've had plenty of little niggly bits that have started stacking up with my cabs, today I crossed a few off the list.

Out resident CNC master Virtvic kindly repro'd some of the fire buttons for my Jet Fighter as one of my buttons was missing and I had temporally replaced it with some thing that just about worked.

The bodged button, it worked but didn't match the original.

Vic's CNC skills made these bad boys!

Fitted to the Sticks. Very nice, thanks Vic!

I also wired a Credit switch to one of my Enduro Racer coin mech's and put in a custom 'reject' label. This is my preferred way of adding credit buttons when no decent free play option is available.

Finally for today I made a small switch panel for my JAMMA cab I'm working on, Service and Test are wired to the inside of the front door that is hinged and open's up, I used some plastic trunking and painted it black, a few holes later and a bit of soldering into the loom and we have a nice little feature that was lacking from my cab.

Cheers, Mart.

Today I spent some time working on my Enduro Racer cab, a couple of jobs needed completing. 1st up was to replace the rubber matting at the base of the cab.

The original stuff was dirty and worn.

I cut the new piece of matting using the original as a rough template and by placing the new matting on the cab and measuring and cutting.

New matting glued in place. Much better!

Next up I needed to look at handle bars and steering. Unlike my Hang-On cab the handle bars didn't centre themselves and were just floppy always leaning to one side. Looking in the Ops manual it really isn't clear how this part of the steering works, so I had to take it to bits...

Here's what I learnt. The main steering shaft has a brass collar connected to it, this part in turn is connected to a spring mechanism that should centre the bars. The problem with mine was that the screws that hold the brass collar in place had snapped so this part was just flapping around loose and not returning the bars to the centre position.

The highlighted areas above show where the screw heads had snapped off, luckily for me I knew someone who could fix problem. The old screws were drilled out and then a new thread tapped into the metalwork. After a few hours of reassembling all the parts (It's tricky and there's very little space to get everything back together) the steering centres itself and makes the game play a lot better.

Today I intended to clone my Toobin' Cardboard Bezel as the original one had some rips and tape holding it together - so I did that, made out of some blue white core card - and then decided to have a go at restoring the original one, gluing all the rips and respraying (Halfords rover Tahiti blue is dead nuts on blue match) - ended up using the original over the clone so I'm quite pleased about that.

I spent some time this weekend fixing some small bits on my cabs that had been on my list of things to do... This is the only one worthwhile showing off.

My small cabaret was in need of new T-Moulding, Duncan had some for sale a while back which i snapped up with this cab in mind. I've fitted t-moulding to a few cabs in the past, this type of moulding was the most difficult to fit, it was more like a stronger brittle plastic than the usual black moulding. I removed some of the groove going round the sharp corners and used a hot glue gun round the curves, the cab previously had glue in the moulding groove, I'm not sure if this was original or someones tweak to help keep it in place.

Anyway I well happy with the results. Before and after photos below.
