It's been a busy couple of days.

First of all, I sold the first cab I ever bought......The Initial D2.
smiley3.gif

It's gone to a good home close to where I live, so if I ever get the urge to play the new owner will accommodate my ID cravings. I'll be building another one using parts that I've accumulated over the couple of years that I've been in this hobby.

So with the Initial D cab gone, yesterday and today I tinkered with the SR2 cab and gave it a much needed clean. Out went Scud Race cage and SR2 went back in. I tweaked the monitor a lil, mounted the old Initial D coin tower and turned down the FFB to strength 7 as it was feeling a bit notchy.

Cosmetically I still need to do a couple of things to the cab, but all the controls are pretty much sorted. It feels really nice to play, it's certainly my favourite cab right now.

Now with the cab out of the way I can finish off the decorating, those skirting boards need sorting!

Edited pic to one with better light.

that rally looks mint

It looks a bit better in the pics than it does in real life.

The black
metalwork needs powdercoating as it's going rusty in spots. I'm gonna
leave the white base as is though, it will be it's reminder of the
journey it went through....it's journey from cab hell back to the living was a long one.

This was a very popular game, I imagine it has had 1000's and 1000's of pounds go through it in it's lifetime. When Martin dropped it off I said to him I think that will clean up nicely.
smiley1.gif

When it's finished I think I'm gonna get a small plaque with the inscription:
"Born in 1998, toured UK Arcades for nearly 2 decades and have the scars to prove it'.

well you have done a nice job if that was before and after......sometimes having small marks or chips in the paint , shows its war wounds....

my missus likes this, it shows it's been used, which is the point really

I likes a bit of Shabby Chic on my cabs.
smiley1.gif

I've still got the PACMAN cab to finish and will be keeping that as original as I can.
Firstly I need to complete a MAME driver as there are bits all over the place....I'm getting sick of staring at a MS9 thats squatting in the living room.

Cheers.

Today on my extraordinarily slow Zac resto I fitted a LED marquee light and sorted (enough for now) the red on the monitor, and bolted it in good and proper. And had a go of lady bug
smiley17.gif

Just need some kind of marquee now to go in the window.

I recently picked up a U4 cabinet.

As
you can see its in a pretty bad way. I decided to sand and respray the
cp silver but it never worked out. The silver kept coming off on my
hands. I decided to take it and get it chromed proper while I worked on
the control panel. To cut a long story short here is the outcome.

It looks just as good in real life.
It will be interesting to see how it wears though.

Whats the exact paint mate?
I've got some faded Scud cushions I may try it on.

Cheers.

She lives!

This cab had been in storage at an Operator's lockup for heaven knows how long, a few months back I rescued the internals and left the corpse there as I had an empty shell left over from a Scud that was stripped for parts.

Getting this cab up and running has been a bit problematic, today I finally got it fully working.
smiley1.gif

The first thing I had to do was redo the loom to the monitor as it had been hacked to fit what looked like a Sanwa connector. I had a spare MS9 so it was put back to how it originally was.

Then when installing the boards with all the looms/PCB's I made a boo boo.
smiley9.gif

There is a set of connectors that link the 2 boards together. Mistakenly I plugged in the 6pin speaker output (to the seat speakers) into the 6pin video output (from the cage) and now I don't get any sync on the Scud cage. That was an expensive mistake!
smiley36.gif

I also had issues with the FFB which seems normal because almost every decommissioned Sega driver has these issues. When testing the FFB motor started smoking which also took out a servo board. I was scared to test anything else on it. But after checking the voltages and swapping driver board/servo board/motor it sorted the issue out. I don't know what originally caused the failure, what I do know is that it needed basically everything replacing that controls the FFB!

Upon further testing the FFB would be OK for a while and then it would cut out, in test mode it passed the tests though. So I cleaned the contacts and reseated the connectors into the control board and all seems well now.
smiley1.gif

Finally although there was sound to the rear/seat speakers I had no sound to the front speakers. I verified both amps were working so it appeared to be a cabling issue. Cleaned and reseated the connectors into the the block at the rear of the cab under the monitor.. I'll be cleaning all the blocks on this cab I think.
smiley1.gif

Heres a picture of her in all her grubby glory.

Scud_restore_1.jpg

Just gotta put the panels back on and then I'll call it a day.
Hopefully when I start the other side of the twin it won't give me as many issues as this one!

Cheers.

Damn that scud race ffb

i know all about it!! mate
smiley15.gif

Hahaha, yeah your an expert dismantling Scud Race now!
smiley36.gif

When they are sorted they appear a very reliable cab from my experience, they simply need a good service regularly to stop any issues from rearing their ugly heads imo. The Sega Rally 2 cab has been awesome so far, no problems at all since first restoring it.

Cheers.

Cheers for that info mate, once I've finished the electrics on the Scud Race I'll try some of that paint since your seats came out lovely.
smiley1.gif

I play SR2 more or less every day so I doubt I'd be selling it any time soon, especially after all the miles I've travelled to collect some of the bits for it.

Saying that, I never imagined I would have sold the ID2 cab so I suppose anything is possible in the future!

I've moved enough cabs to and from your house to last a lifetime! The Polo already let me know enough was enough when the exhaust basically fell off bombing it to your place through the country lanes.
smiley36.gif

But the Polo may come out of retirement one day.....if I can get a trailer that can carry Sega Racers easily.
